Junior League of Tallahassee Seeks Dynamic Students for it’s Teen Board

The Junior League of Tallahassee is accepting applications for its third annual Teen Board through Friday, September 11. The Teen Board, which is comprised of female juniors and seniors from all local high schools, fosters a foundation of service and leadership.

This dynamic learning opportunity allows area teens to sharpen their leadership skills while earning volunteer hours for college and scholarship applications. Junior League of Tallahassee Helps Local Children Shop for School

Tallahassee-­ On Sunday, August 2, the Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT) helped nearly 100 local children shop for back to school items at the 19th Annual Kids’ Boutique. In partnership with Kohl’s, the League purchased back-to-school items including clothes, shoes and other supplies.

Junior League of Tallahassee Hosts Annual Operation Prom Dress
Event offers free prom dresses and accessories to deserving young women

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT) will host one of its signature community impact projects, Operation Prom Dress (OPD), on Saturday, April 4, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., at the Tallahassee Community College Student Union Ballroom (444 Appleyard Drive).

This one-day shopping event is designed for public high school students in the Big Bend area that may not be able to afford a prom dress to shop in a boutique-like atmosphere complete with dressing rooms for their full prom attire; including accessories and shoes. Operation Prom Dress began in 2001 as an event for students of Gretchen Everhart, a local school for persons with developmental disabilities, and has grown into a regional project serving hundreds of local teens. The Junior League of Tallahassee Announces the 2015 Whale of a Sale

TALLAHASSEE – The Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT) will host the 2015 Whale of a Sale, the community’s largest yard sale Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28 at the former Harvey’s Supermarket located at 5010 West Tennessee Street. This year’s sale is presented by AMWAT Moving, Warehousing and Storage and is JLT’s largest fundraiser since 1974.

Whale of a Sale has grown to be Tallahassee’s largest yard sale, featuring great deals on new and used furniture, clothes, house wares, toys, sporting goods, appliances, books, music and more. Along with the opportunity to enjoy early shopping, community members are also invited to join the JLT for the Big Food Truck Bash on Friday night from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The Bash will feature more than five local food trucks and a beer garden. Local elementary school children receive new clothes and school supplies

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT) will host the annual Kids’ Boutique Shopping Event on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Kohl’s on Apalachee Parkway from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Kids’ Boutique is one of the JLT’s Signature Community Projects where JLT volunteers will take more than 100 local students and their families shopping to help prepare them for the start of a new school year. JLT works directly with guidance counselors at Leon County elementary schools to identify children in need of essential school clothes and shoes. And with the help of local business partners like Kohl’s Department Store, we purchase clothing and shoes for these children and provide each child with a backpack filled with school supplies. Understanding the importance of providing more opportunities for girls to build self-esteem and healthy lifestyles, these two non-profit organizations are teaming up to help empower girls to live healthier and more joyful lives. The partnership will help expand and enrich services to girls in Tallahassee.

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Junior League of Tallahassee celebrated the beginning of the 2012-2013 League year with a fun and excitement-filled event that included a $7,200 donation to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Foundation to benefit Tallahassee Memorial Pediatric Services for COPE — Creating Opportunities for Parent Empowerment — a new program implemented within Pediatric Services which will provide over 2,000 hospitalized children and their families served at TMH an opportunity to learn how to reduce stress with activities and medical play therapy.

New projects support JLT focus on providing opportunities for at-risk children and their families to help them succeed in school

TALLAHASSEE,FL – The Junior League of Tallahassee is excited to kick-off two new community projects this week — the Second Harvest BackPack Program and Boys and Girls Club Family Night. JLT and its members will support these projects throughout the year through financial and volunteer support.

The Second Harvest BackPack Program aims to address childhood hunger in Tallahassee area by providing school children at risk of hunger with backpacks of nutritious, kid-friendly foods to take home over the weekends during the school year. Through JLT’s support, Second Harvest of the Big Bend will be able to provide 67 backpacks to students for the year and JLT volunteers will help stuff and deliver the backpacks to the children. Local elementary school children received new clothes and school supplies during Kids’ Boutique

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT) today provided 130 local students with the clothes and supplies needed for a successful school year at the 16th annual Kids’ Boutique Shopping Event at Kohl’s on Apalachee Parkway. Each year, JLT works directly with guidance counselors at Leon County elementary schools to identify children in need of essential school clothes and shoes. And with the help of generous corporate partners like Kohl’s Department Store, JLT volunteers take the children and their families shopping and provide them with clothing, shoes a backpack filled with school supplies.

“The JLT has hosted the Kids’ Boutique for many years and it has become one of our membership’s favorite events. We love working with the kids each year and sharing in their excitement,” said JLT President Jill Pope. “It is a joy to give back to our community and help provide these deserving children the confidence and tools needed to succeed in school.
