How to Join the Junior League of Tallahassee


The Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT) is open to women who possess an interest in voluntarism, a commitment to community service, and an interest in developing their potential for voluntary community participation. The JLT reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.

HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER

We welcome your interest in learning more about membership admission to the Junior League of Tallahassee. JLT accepts applications for new members once a year. Applications will be available to Active and Sustaining members in the Spring.

Requirements for Admission into the 2008/2009 Provisional Class included:

  • Proposal by an Active or Sustaining member of the Junior League in good standing and endorsement by another Active or Sustaining member in good standing.
  • The candidate and the proposer or endorser are required to attend one of the Admissions information sessions scheduled. During this meeting, information will be given out about Junior League and the Provisional year including both financial and service obligations.
  • The candidate shall have reached her 23rd birthday and shall not have reached her 45th birthday at the time of her proposal.
  • The candidate shall have lived in the JLT admissions area (defined as Leon County or a 40-mile radius from the intersection of Tennessee and Monroe Streets) by January 1st of the year of her proposal. Or she shall have lived at any time in the JLT admissions area for ten years or more.

Candidates are admitted to the League as Provisional members for one year. During that year, Provisionals learn about JLT through a Provisional course, experience several training opportunities, attend membership meetings, meet new friends and have FUN.

TRANSFERRING INTO THE JLT

You must first contact your "home" League and request a transfer to the Junior League of Tallahassee. We are unable to begin your transfer without authorization from your original League. You must have your Tallahassee address in order to begin the process.

Once your transfer is initiated with AJLI by your home League, you will be contacted by the Vice President of Membership. You will then be asked to forward payment to include a $25 transfer fee and pro-rated dues.

Once payment is received, the Chair of the Transfer Committee will be given your information and will contact you. You will also receive your placement assignment for the remainder of the League year. Several social events are planned throughout the year for our Transfers.
