The Junior League of Tallahassee has a long and rich history of supporting organizations in need locally. One example of such outreach is through our Done in a Day program. Done in a Day is designed to help local organizations or charities with a community project that, while can be completed in one day, yields a large reward for all of those involved. All Done in a Day projects are designed to meet a specific community need. Examples of past projects include decorating maternity rooms at the Brehon Institute, spring cleaning at the Ronald McDonald house and book drives for children.
The Junior League of Tallahassee joins over 250 other Junior Leagues from around the country in hosting Kids in the Kitchen. On Thursday, April 26th members of the Boys and Girls Club at the Bethel Family Life Center will participate in interactive cooking demonstrations, games, obstacle courses, and much more. Kids in the Kitchen promotes healthy lifestyle choices, such as good nutrition, exercise, and strong self-confidence. The Done in a Day committee is planning:
Pumpkinpalooza: On Saturday, October 28, the Junior League of Tallahassee will host Pumpkinpalooza, a Halloween Celebration for pediatric patients, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in the Women's Pavilion Atrium. The event will feature music, crafts, face painting, story telling, treats and fun galore for the kids to enjoy.
Kids Boutique: On Sunday, August 6, the Junior League of Tallahassee held the annual Kids Boutique back-to-school shopping event. Partnering with local retailers, more than 150 low-income elementary school children have had the opportunity to go shopping to choose new outfits for school.
Spring 2007 marks the fifth year of the JLT Operation Prom Dress boutique. Operation Prom Dress was created during the 2001/2002 school year by the Junior League's Done in a Day committee for the girls at the Gretchen Everhart School for Exceptional Students. In 2006, the project extended to all Leon County High Schools and into Wakulla County as well.
