Community Impact

The Junior League of Tallahassee may have reached a milestone, but our work in this community has only just begun. Every year, the members of this League strive to determine the best ways to serve local children and families through giving of their time, talents and resources.  The JLT has many accomplishments in its storied history, but we must look ahead to 2010 and beyond.

This year, we will contribute more than 10,000 volunteer hours to promote our mission and improve the lives of local children and families.

Community Project Application

Becoming a JLT Community Project

The Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT) strives to provide volunteer efforts where most needed in the community. Annually, we review applications for new community projects to determine our areas of focus for the following league year.  We invite your application and look forward to working with you.

What does the JLT look for in our community projects?

·   The ideal project will fit with the mission of the JLT, provide quality volunteer opportunities and generate JLT member interest.

·   The JLT commits to community projects in two ways: 1) volunteers only and 2) volunteers and funding.  We do not provide funding only.  JLT volunteers can assist with short- or long-term projects with your organization.

Community Project Application

The application for the 2010-11 League Year will be available in November 2009.

Done in a Day

The Done in a Day program is designed to help local organizations or charities with one-day projects that yield a large reward for all involved. All Done in a Day projects are designed to meet a specific, immediate community need. Past projects include spring cleaning at the Ronald McDonald house, throwing a Pumpkinpalooza party for the children in the pediatric unit at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, sorting toys at the Christmas Connection and volunteering at the build-site when ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover came to town.

In 2008, the JLT forged a new partnership to serve foster children living at the Tallahassee Campus of Florida Baptist Children's Homes. JLT members mentor children ages five to 18, provide monthly meals and activities, and collect clothing, school supplies and other necessities to distribute throughout the year. Heart Gallery

The Heart Gallery of America is a collaborative project of more than 120 Heart Galleries across the nation. The program promotes the individuality and dignity of children living in foster care in hopes of increasing the number of adoptive families. These children are photographed by professional photographers, and their portraits are displayed publically throughout the community as works of art.  The JLT is taking a leadership role in bringing this program to North Florida to help more children find their "forever families." Visit www.heartgalleryofamerica.org to learn more.

Kids' Boutique

The end of summer means a back-to-school shopping spree with our annual Kids' Boutique. The JLT works directly with guidance counselors at Leon County elementary schools to identify children in need of essential school clothes and shoes.
