The impact the Junior League of Tallahassee makes to our community is possible because of the dedication of our members – those who graciously give their time and resources. We are fortunate to have a membership filled with diverse, smart, hard-working and visionary women who choose to give their time and talent to positively improve the Tallahassee community through their Junior League of Tallahassee volunteer work.
Following are examples of our active Junior League of Tallahassee members:
Provisional
Katie Hayden, Provisional Member Katie Hayden is an excited new provisional member of the Junior League of Tallahassee who has been dedicated to serving the community ever since her college days. As an undergrad at Florida State University studying political science, social science, and history, Katie was incredibly involved on campus through student government and a chapter of a women’s empowerment organization, the Equal Rights Alliance. Now Katie is about to finish up her Masters in economics at Florida State while working for Florida TaxWatch as their Research and Communications Assistant, and she is a very active member of other organizations such as the League of Women Voters, Tallahassee Young Professionals, National Association of Business Economists, and she is an on-campus volunteer tutor to economics students. Katie joined the Junior League to continue her service efforts and to follow in a few of her family member’s footsteps. Though she loves all of the League’s community projects, she especially loves those geared towards children and looks forward to experiencing all of them. In her spare time, Katie likes to participate in First Friday activities, visit the Downtown Saturday Market, eat at Kool Beanz, and go running at Lake Ella.
Active
Mary Radcliffe, Active Member As a docent for the Florida Governor's Mansion for five years, skilled interior designer and recent volunteer for the Historic Old Capitol, Mary Radcliffe is a paragon of Southern hospitality. Mary graduated from Florida State University with a degree in interior design and shares her talents through working for Main Street Design, Inc. based in Quincy, Florida. Some of Main Street's pro bono work includes the Ronald McDonald House, Big Bend Hospice, and Refuge House. Mary is a first-year active member of the the Junior League of Tallahassee, and she was inspired to join after being involved with a number of service organizations throughout the years and being motivated by her sister and friends who were already members of the League. Mary's favorite Junior League community project is Kids' Boutique. She thinks that it is a great outreach project for children and looks forward to volunteering again in August. She also is serving as the Decorations Chair for this year's Jingle Jubilee and is very excited about its potential success! Mary enjoys dining at Tallahassee local restaurants and loves spending time with family, friends, and her wirehaired Jack Russell terrier, Fern.
Sustainer
Carol Moore, Sustainer Member Though she’s a wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher, Carol Moore found something else to add to her list: Book Fairy. Carol visits local schools and children’s groups decked out in a fairy costume complete with wings and a wand to read eager young listeners two books from her eventual six-book I Wish You Ice Cream and Cake series, Busy Bumble Bee Rides the Waves and Marvin the Magnificent Nubian Goat. Living out on Moore Farm as her three children grew up and already inspired by tales told by Beatrix Potter, Carol had dream world of ideas to pull from and had her first two books of the series published in 2009. The third book is currently edited and hopefully coming out soon for our reading pleasure. Carol has been in the Junior League of Tallahassee for an impressive 40 years! Throughout her years as a member of the Junior League, Carol noted how important it is to be around positive happy people like the ladies of the Junior League. She credits the Junior League with teaching her exciting, innovative ways to work with people you don’t know that well, ways to manage time in a creative, useful way, and she learned how important it is to look for the best in others. Carol especially appreciates the fact that the Junior League allows for the chance to do something good for the community in a caring, unselfish way. One of her fondest memories is of being a member of the legendary “League Loonies” and acting out hilarious skits to give the annual report with other members. As a Florida State University graduate with a degree in elementary education, Carol remains a strong supporter of FSU’s education program, and she is also promoter of the Tallahassee Garden Club and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra.
